When you’re installing a new air conditioning system, it’s tough to know where to start. If you’re a new homeowner, this isn’t something you’ve had to think of before. And even if you’ve owned a home for years, you only have to replace an AC system (hopefully) every decade or so.
Today, there are so many special features can help you to enjoy your new installation even more. We recommend consulting with a local technician on your new air conditioner first and foremost. But, with the help of this guide, you can educate yourself about some of the features you may want so that you know what to ask for.
High Efficiency Ratings
This is something we tell everyone when they are looking for a new AC installation (especially since we live in a warmer climate, where AC costs can get quite high). Check the efficiency rating before settling on a cheaper AC unit!
We know that price is a concern for so many of you out there, but there are many other ways to save on a new installation. Efficiency rating matters so much more, as the eventual savings should offset the extra cost of a more efficient system. Look for a SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) of 16 or higher, if possible.
Thermostat Upgrades
Make sure that your new AC system is compatible with a thermostat of your choosing. Most new central AC systems can be set up with a wireless thermostat, which you can control from your smart phone, no matter where you are. But you should check with a technician, just to be sure.
Variable Speed Technology
Variable speed technology allows an air conditioner (or heat pump) to run at multiple speeds. Usually, an air conditioner has two settings: on and off. Variable speed technology readjusts the speed as needed to keep the temperature within one or two degrees of the thermostat settings.
The benefits of this?
- Quieter operation
- More accurate temperatures
- Energy savings
